Living up to its Indian advertising tagline of ‘Next is What?’, Samsung’s upcoming mobiles seem to be catching the maximum attention in the mobile market today. Samsung promises to deliver the best in mobile technology in the days to come leaving behind a legacy of non user friendly mobile phones.
Samsung seems to have learnt from its mistakes. The biggest problem with the erstwhile Samsung mobiles was its user interface which was cumbersome and unintuitive. However now things seem to have changed. Samsung has decided to equip its upcoming mobiles with two of the most popular mobile operating systems in the world today: Windows Mobile and Symbian S60.
First is Samsung’s latest launch, the Samsung Omnia i900, a touchscreen marvel. It will be unfair to call it an iPhone killer, because the iPhone is by no stretch of imagination even close to the Samsung Omnia in terms of features. The Samsung Omnia’s specs read: Windows Mobile 6.1 with Samsung TouchWiz interface, 3.2 inch touch-screen, 3G HSPDA, 5 megapixel camera with auto-focus and flash, GPS with A-GPS, Wi-fi, 8 to 16 GB of storage memory, FM Radio, Accelerometer, TV-Out, DivX video support…. the list just goes on. With the Omnia, Samsung has stepped onto the touchscreen PDA market with a bang and as of date has no equals. It has the potential to wipe off the iPhone and also the HTC Touch Diamond.
Further, Samsung has also ventured to stand up to Nokia on the latter’s own turf, Symbian. Samsung has also announced the Samsung Innov8 i8510 which has a 8 megapixel camera with auto-focus and runs on Symbian 9.3 with FP2. Besides this the phone’s specs read : 2.8 inch TFT display, 3G, 8/16GB flash storage, GPS with A-GPS, Wi-fi, TV-Out, FM Radio, Accelerometer. Samsung has positioned the Innov8 to counter the Nokia N96 and due to its 8 megapixel camera, can wipe out Nokia N96 from the market.
Currently the Samsung Omnia is priced extremely high and the Innov8 won’t come cheap either. But that is to be expected with mobiles of such high capabilities when they are new in the market.
Forget the iPhone, the Nokias and the HTCs. The future is bright, the future is Samsung !!
