For those of you who haven’t used Firefox till now and are still using Internet Explorer as your browser, here is a list of the best Firefox Addons that add new functionality to the Firefox browser. These addons by itself should convince you to make the switch to Firefox and dump IE. Here are my picks for the top must-have Firefox Add-ons:
1. Foxmarks Bookmark Synchronizer : If you use Firefox on more than one computer, you’ll want Foxmarks. Install Foxmarks on each computer, and it will work silently in the background to keep your bookmarks synchronized.
2. Adblock Plus- Ever been annoyed by all those ads and banners on the internet that often take longer to download than everything else on the page? Install Adblock Plus now and get rid of them.
3. Greasemonkey – Allows you to customize the way a webpage displays using small bits of JavaScript. Hundreds of scripts, for a wide variety of popular sites, are already available.
4. Better Gmail 2 – Add useful extra features and skins to Gmail, like hierarchical labels, macros, file attachment icons, and more.
5. Tab Mix Plus – Tab Mix Plus enhances Firefox’s tab browsing capabilities. It includes such features as duplicating tabs, controlling tab focus, tab clicking options, undo closed tabs and windows, plus much more. (The Firefox 3 version is still under beta development)
6. Video Download Helper – The easy way to download Web videos from hundreds of YouTube-like sites. This works also for audio and picture galleries.
7. DownThemAll – A download manager/accelerator built right inside Firefox!
8. Scrapbook – Helps you to save Web pages and organize the collection.
Though Mozilla’s Firefox cannot completely replace IE as mentioned in my previous post, it can still be your No.1 browser. For those sites which are not yet compatible with Firefox, switch temporarily to IE, or better still, use Firefox’s IE Tab addon to use IE within your Firefox browser !!
Still not convinced and intend to continue using IE ? Unfortunately IE does not have the vast number of free addons that Firefox has, but it still has the capable IE7Pro plugin which is trying to play catchup with Firefox addons. Its not sufficient to take on the might of the tons of Firefox addons but something is better than nothing !!
