It is very simple & cheap to create your own online presence on the internet. All you need is around $10 per year. And you don’t need to know html or be too tech savvy. You only need to buy your own domain on a domain registrar such as Godaddy or Namecheap and then use completely free services such as Google’s Blogger and Google’s Apps For Your Domain to host your website & email on your very own domain.
It takes just minutes to create a Blogger account, select one from its many templates and write some text about yourself to create a website and then link it to your domain using Blogger’s free domain mapping service.
Then just hop on to Google Apps For Your Domain and allow Google to host your domain’s email with its Gmail service. You can create email IDs for all your family members at your familyname domain.
Nowadays, its very difficult to get a decent username on either of Gmail, Yahoomail or any other free service. The result is that one ends up creating a email address such as nikhil262008@yahoo.com which not only sounds wierd & unprofessional but is also difficult to remember. Using your own domain address guarantees you a good address such as firstname.lastname@familyname.com. Plus all your family members can get a decent email address on your domain. In the future if you wish you can even switch over from Gmail to Yahoomail or any other email service at the backend and still maintain the same email address for the world so that you don’t need to go through the trouble of informing your friends about your new email address.
And last but not the least you will stand out from the crowd when your friends will find out that you have your very own .com domain and a email address on that domain. All this for less than $10 a year.
